Q. What are some of the greatest challenges and opportunities that today's African youth face?

A. On a continent where about 60% of the population is between 16 and 25, the biggest challenge we face is that our leaders are more preoccupied with dying in power, changing the constitution, and sending journalists and opponents to jail rather than actually designing policies and building programs that provide solutions that can empower young people to create opportunities for themselves and inclusively participate in our communities’ enhancement. Young Africans are very concerned about their future and have the ability to transform this continent, but they can’t do it all alone.

Another big challenge that young people have is the lack of support not only from governments, but also from banks and other institutions, parents, and even successful business people and public figures. Everyone has a nice speech about how youth can be empowered but very few turn their great speech into action.
